How to Care for Your Bamboo over Porcelain Cup

How to Care for Your Bamboo over Porcelain Cup

THEYUNXI

A Bamboo over Porcelain cup brings together a porcelain interior and a handwoven bamboo exterior. The two materials need slightly different care, but neither calls for a complicated routine.

The aim is simple: keep the drinking surfaces clean, avoid leaving the bamboo wet, and let the cup become a familiar part of your day. Caring for it does not mean keeping it looking untouched.

1. Everyday cleaning, without the extra work

Wash the porcelain interior and drinking rim by hand with a soft sponge and mild dish soap. Rinse away any soap residue.

The bamboo exterior does not need a separate scrub or polish every time you finish a drink. Clean it gently when needed. For light dust, a soft, dry cloth is enough; for a small spill, use a damp cloth. If a drink leaves residue on the weave, gently clean the affected area with mild soap and rinse.

Avoid abrasive pads, stiff brushes, and scraping between the bamboo strands. There is no need to scrub away the natural texture.

2. When the bamboo gets wet

Avoid soaking the cup or leaving it in a sink of water.

After washing, dry the porcelain with a soft towel and gently blot excess moisture from the bamboo. Leave the cup in a well-ventilated place so the weave can air-dry fully before you put it inside a cupboard or box.

Let it dry naturally rather than placing it on a heater or in strong sunlight. This is a step to follow when the bamboo gets wet—not a ritual to repeat after every drink.

3. A few things to avoid

Keep your cup out of the dishwasher and microwave. Hand washing is the recommended method for the combined porcelain-and-bamboo construction.

For everyday storage, choose a dry spot away from prolonged direct sunlight. If you are packing the cup away for longer, make sure it is clean and completely dry first.

There is no need to make the care routine more elaborate than that.

4. More familiar with every use

Bamboo does not have to stay exactly as it looked on the first day.

Over time, its tone and sheen may change subtly, developing a gentle patina. These gradual changes can become part of the cup’s character rather than something to polish away. How they appear will vary with the bamboo and the way the cup is used. There is no particular finish to aim for or need to hurry the process.

Patina is not the same as dirt or drink residue; regular cleaning still matters.

Alongside any visible changes comes something simpler: familiarity. You learn the texture beneath your fingers and the place your hand naturally rests. A cup that felt new becomes the one you reach for without thinking.

That is part of what makes an everyday object feel like your own.
