Each bamboo strand is split and refined to around 1 mm wide.
Following the porcelain's curve, the maker guides and adjusts each strand by hand, carefully maintaining the weave's tension and spacing.
The intricate pattern takes shape slowly, one strand at a time.
MADE TO BE FELT
Gentle in the hand. Distinctive to the touch.
The finely woven bamboo rests comfortably against your palm, offering a gentle, textured feel.
As your thumb moves across the weave, you notice a subtle resistance — quite different from the smooth glide of porcelain.
It's a small but distinctive sensation, one you may find yourself returning to, just for the feeling.
A LIVING CRAFT
A tradition carried forward by hand.
Porcelain-body bamboo weaving was inscribed on China’s national list of intangible cultural heritage in 2008.
Passed from maker to maker, the craft continues through practice — knowledge held in the hand, repeated, refined, and carried forward.
The Daily Cup is one contemporary expression of that tradition: a living craft made for daily use.

MEET THE MAKER
The judgment behind the weave.
Liu Luolin, a deaf artisan and officially recognized inheritor of bamboo weaving, works directly on the Daily Cup alongside her studio team.
She also helps guide its development, bringing her practiced judgment to the weave's balance, finish, and feel in the hand.
Liu Luolin was invited to demonstrate bamboo weaving over porcelain at the Palace Museum in Beijing. May, 2025.

"I brought a cup back from Chengdu for my mom. I loved how the bamboo felt. It's so finely woven, but there's a slight resistance when you run your fingers over it. It's surprisingly satisfying.
My mom's first question was, "Is this really all woven by hand?" A few days later, she texted me, "I think I'm making coffee just so I can use it.”
